Commanding panoramic views of San Francisco Bay, this 8,600 square foot hillside home embraces the vista while maintaining a strong connection to its site. Organized around a private courtyard garden, the design balances the owners’ strong desire for both privacy and transparency. A sophisticated layering of cedar slat wood screens, mahogany windows, cement plaster and reclaimed redwood siding blurs the notion of exterior threshold, reinforcing indoor/outdoor connectivity. Extending from the structure, board-formed concrete site walls help define exterior spaces and offer privacy while simultaneously creating backdrops and framing views.
